A Family Business

I’ve always considered Lexer a family company.
(even though up until just recently, we’ve never actually had any true ~blood ~ family in the team).

If you’ve worked with me, you’d know I’m one of those people who form very tight bonds with those around me and really invest in their journey.

Sometimes it’s a curse, but it’s always worth the effort.
(Plus I don’t know any other way).

At Lexer, the role of Office Manager has been a notoriously tricky role to place.
The JD is a junk-drawer of random tasks ranging from “keep the kitchen clean” to “be a cultural cheerleader” to “organise memorable events for our clients”.

Reality check: What we’ve actually been looking for is someone who can make fantastic cultural decisions with autonomy, but stay utterly in-line with the style of the founders.
(And… yeah, I’m VERY particular).

Asking a stranger to achieve this seems… in hindsight… a fool’s errand.
So.
A month ago, I hired my brother, Liam, into Lexer as our Office Manager.

It was one of those “universe provides” moment where he was looking to leave Hospitality, at the same time as we were looking.
Previously, I hadn’t even considered the idea of Liam joining us. And since that moment, I can’t believe there was ever any other option.

Liam’s approach to the role has been effortless.
Partly (mostly?) because he’s just a naturally good host, and partly (mostly? 🤣) because he’s not a stranger.

He knows my quirks, my approach, my style.
And there’s definitely an art (that he fully knows) of how to convince me of something I’m against.
The thought of asking a stranger to achieve the same outcome, just seems, insane!

What I love most is the family vibe it’s bought into the office.

Hey Lexis!
Got a sibling or distant relation who’s a fantastic human being?
We’re hiring 🤣
(Not joking).
